This course places emphasis on health and skill-related components of fitness. Students develop knowledge of basic rules, techniques, and strategies related to individual and team sports. Students are introduced to training principles, goal setting, and personal fitness program design as it relates to exercise. The course encourages a commitment to lifetime activity and fitness for enjoyment, self expression, and social interaction. The health education segment of the program is designed to provide information that can serve as a basis for developing the knowledge and attitude necessary for making healthy lifestyle choices. Topics covered in this course include Internet safety, influences on personal health, mental illnesses, stress management, alcohol and other drugs, and CPR/AED or first aid training with opportunity for certification.
