Science Fiction & Philosophy

Science Fiction writers examine the impact of scientific discoveries and technology, posing philosophical questions about what it is to be human. This course focuses on sci-fi themes such as AI, alien life, time travel, and post-apocalyptic worlds. Students will read a science fiction novel and short stories and study many related topics and themes including Plato’s philosophy of idealism, the Cold War and espionage, and the significance of religious themes in science fiction. Curriculum includes creative and expository writing. This is a one-semester course.
