The purpose of this course is to provide students with a study of algebraic expressions and equations. Students learn how to simplify and evaluate an expression, and how to solve all types of equations and inequalities that contain integers, fractions, and/or decimals with a level of proficiency. An emphasis on modeling in applications is also completed in each unit of study. Students continue to explore other areas of mathematics such as rules of exponents, ratio and percent, consumer applications, and probability. Students develop a strong foundation in their basic skills so they can continue to explore and expand on these skills in an Algebra I course at Mount Saint Charles Academy. In doing so, students gain a deeper sense of mathematical reasoning, develop confidence about their mathematical work, and learn to reason and communicate their mathematical skills and concepts more effectively.
