Course Description

With the premise that film is a visual text that can be “read” like a literary text, this course teaches students the tools and language to examined, analyzed, and evaluated film texts. Students read short fiction and watch movies (mostly outside the classroom) to examine critically such cinematic elements as mis en scene, music, lighting, and acting techniques. Students write short essays and one research paper. This is a one-semester course.
