The purpose of this course is to reinforce and enhance students’ understanding of place value and basic operations with integers, fractions, and decimals compared to prior skills learned in the previous course. Students will also learn how to solve 1- and 2-step equations and inequalities that contain integers, fractions, and/or decimals with a level of proficiency including modeling in applications. Students deepen and strengthen their mathematical communication skills, and have continued exposure to other areas of mathematics such as geometry and measurement, data and statistics, and perimeter, area, and volume. Students develop a strong foundation in their basic skills so they can continue to explore and expand on these skills in a Pre-Algebra course at Mount Saint Charles Academy. In doing so, students gain a deeper sense of mathematical reasoning and develop confidence with their mathematical ability.
