Course Description
Please note that only two levels of Chinese are available at Mount. Students looking to fulfill the Mount graduation requirement for a language should wait until 9th-grade to begin Chinese I.
Chinese I
This class introduces the four linguistic skills: Listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This course aims at novice proficiency of all four skills characterized by students’ abilities to communicate minimally with the learned material. In addition to language skills, students are introduced to Chinese culture with particular attention to the geography of China and Chinese countries of the world.

Chinese II
This class continues the development of the four linguistic skills: Listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This course aims at intermediate proficiency characterized by students’ abilities to create with the language, to understand the spoken and written word in practical situations, and initiate, minimally sustain, and close in a simple way basic communicative tasks. The students study Chinese culture and customs in this course.
