Calculus is the branch of mathematics used to describe motion, and it has a multitude of applications in mathematics, the physical sciences, engineering, and the social and biological sciences. Calculus ties together all of the mathematical skills students learned previously, preparing them for many careers, and is a requirement for several major areas of study. It essentially serves as an initial college-level calculus course. Students are introduced to powerful techniques essential to mathematicians, natural scientists, engineers, social scientists, and many life scientists so they build the strong and solid foundation needed for subsequent mathematics courses and courses in other disciplines. Calculus is the language in which engineers, physicists, and other scientists develop theories and solve practical problems – therefore, this course is designed for students who intend to further pursue these math or science-related fields. The TI-84 family of graphing calculators is an integral part of the course.
