Art I

Course Description

This full-year introductory art class reviews the basic skills of drawing. Students create work from actual observations and have numerous opportunities to work in a variety of media including charcoal, pastel, pen and ink, and paints. Lessons in art appreciation and art history are presented throughout the course. This class allows students to begin the portfolio preparation process. To skip a level due to exceptional ability or as a transfer student (students in grades 10, 11, and 12), students will need to submit a portfolio of five to eight finished pieces of work. A panel of art educators determine if the student meets the skill level to skip the introductory course of Art 1.
