Course Description
AP Language and Composition focuses on non-fiction reading to teach rhetorical and linguistic strategies that writers, including British writers, use in non-literary as well as literary formats. This course will involve various modes of formal writing – persuasive essays, narratives, editorials, speeches, the research paper – as well as personal informal writing, such as college application essays and dialectic journals. Students will do timed essays using SAT and AP English writing prompts, including the AP “synthesis essay.” Pre-requisites: all honors/AP classes have grade requirements and need department approval.
