The purpose of this course is to extend the study of the real number system introduced in Algebra I to include complex numbers. The course thoroughly investigate topics such as factoring polynomials, operations with irrational and imaginary numbers, quadratic functions, rational functions, and polynomial functions. We study techniques for simplifying, solving, and graphing functions, during which students examine how the skills taught in prior math courses cross over and are applied to the new topics they learn and investigate throughout the course. The continual development of problem-solving skills is an integral part of the course as well as the use of the TI-84 family of graphing calculators.
*Prerequisite: Algebra I
