This course provides a study of the basic structure of the “real number system” by focusing on techniques students continue to use when simplifying and solving all types of algebraic equations and inequalities. A deep study of linear functions will emphasize the techniques to graph a linear equation or inequality and writing equations of linear functions. How to solve a linear system of equations or inequalities is a concept examined in this course so students can connect this concept to real-world optimization application and modeling problems. A study of exponents, absolute value functions, piecewise functions, exponential functions, and polynomials will also be explored. The development of problem-solving skills is an integral part of this course, and precision of language and notation is also emphasized.
