Music has been a part of Mount Saint Charles Academy’s history since its founding in 1924. Since that time, it has continued to grow in scope and quality. It now includes band and chorus at both the high school and junior high level. Mount also has a very active program for Jazz Band, Handbells and Steel Drums.

Mr. Marc Blanchette ’76, was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the Rhode Island Music Educator Association at their annual meeting in September of 2015. This award is the highest honor in the field of music education that a music teacher can attain.

Mr. Blanchette was a unanimous choice of the R.I.M.E.A. executive board and the only music teacher selected for this most prestigious award for 2015 in Rhode Island. The board stated that Marc represents “the very best example of a complete and totally dedicated music educator” and he has “set a very high standard of excellence in our field.”
The Mount Saint Charles Academy Music department includes three bands - the junior high band, senior high band and wind ensemble. Instrumental students of all abilities are included in these ensembles, with the exception of the wind ensemble, which is an auditioned group. The junior high band includes students in grades 7 and 8. Students in grades 9 through 12 are auditioned and placed in the senior band and wind ensemble.
