Excelsior Basketball Skills Development

About the Excelsior Basketball Skills Development

Mount has partnered with It’s Possible Basketball to provide an innovative opportunity for grades 6-12 to supplement their individual and team-based on-the-court skills during the school day. Similar to our Sur La Glace Figure Skating program, the Excelsior Basketball Skills class allows for valuable supplemental training time, can cut external training and coaching costs, eliminates daily travel, and creates time for extracurricular activities so that Mount students can be more than athletes.

How does the basketball skills class work?

Students will receive training time with It’s Possible Basketball coaches as an elective class opportunity during the school day. These training sessions are run by experienced trainers to provide students the time and opportunity to work in small groups and one-on-one settings that focus on their individual needs. Small group training like this takes students to new levels and lets them progress at their own pace.

In addition, eliminating travel between school and training gives students more time for music, arts, clubs, after school sports, additional academic help, and other extracurricular pursuits.

All Ages Training

This class allows studnts of all ages and experience levels to receive training designed to fit their individual needs. There is a program fee tied to this opportunity that can be found on our Tuition & Fees page.

Beyond the Classroom

Opportunities to continue development outside of the classroom will be offered.  Students will be invited to participate in tournaments, showcases, and camps to continue to build skills. Participants will have access to guest coaches, as well as development guidance from former college and professional players.

Pedro Rios

Founder, Basketball Teacher

Coach Pedro Rios is a long-time coach with the heart of a teacher who connects with each and every player he works with. Coach Pedro teaches the game in micro details that are easy to understand and implement in every player’s workout.

Coach Pedro began his career at a young age, and blossomed under the coaching of renowned high school coach Floyd Narcisse at Central High School in Providence, Rhode Island. A four year captain, Pedro was honored with Central’s highest athletic award for the top student athlete in 2005. He was also named an All-American nominee, All-League, All Division, and an All State athlete in Rhode Island. Pedro studied Physical and Health Education while playing for the CCRI Knights until home responsibilities compelled him to leave the team to focus more there.

As a coach, he developed It’s Possible Basketball concurrently with duties as head coach at McCourt Middle School in Cumberland, RI.  Today, he trains full-time at his own facilities in Seekonk, MA while working with thousands of players across Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
