Mount Saint Charles Coaches

When you participate in sports at Mount Saint Charles Academy, you will find yourself being mentored by people who go beyond coaching on the field. Our coaches are Mounties, and they are an integral part of the Mount community.

Our coaches are experts in their sport, supportive mentors to young people, and active members of our community who represent Mount with integrity.

 

Fall Sports

Boys Soccer

Coach Nick Woodruff

Coach Woodruff provides a unique experience for his players to learn under due to his wide variety of personal experience. Hailing from Attleboro, MA, Woodruff started playing AYS soccer as early as 6 years old,  followed by joining BAYS Travel program. Around the age of 10 he began to play club soccer for various teams including Black Watch Premier, NEFC, and Scorpions SC where he won the U13 Massachusetts State Cup along with numerous local and regional tournaments. At 14 he was asked to join the New England Revolution Academy where he spent time from 2012 to 2017 totaling 118 games played.

As an academy standout it helped gain him national attention as a Top 150 recruit in the class of 2017 by CollegeSoccerNews.com. In the fall of 2017 he attended Michigan State University to join the Big Ten powerhouse. Spending 3 years there, Nick played a total of 27 games even making it to an NCAA Final Four in 2018. After a season ending injury his sophomore year he came back strong his Junior year as he started all but one game for the Spartans. In the following off-season after receiving a contract offer from the New England Revolution organization Nick decided to full-fill his lifelong dream to become a professional.

Girls Soccer

Coach Anthony Silva

Coach Silva began his girl’s soccer coaching career at Cumberland High School in 2009, eventually being promoted to varsity head coach in 2011. Some notable accomplishments during his time there included leading the girls’ team to regular season championships in 2015 and 2016 along with an appearance in the 2015 State championship game. In 2015 and 2016 he was selected as the RI Girls High School Coach of the Year. He has also coached the U18 Girls Premier team for the New England Futbol Club. He also has fifteen years coaching of youth soccer. He also has his United States Soccer Federation D License. In 2022 he was hired at girls head coach at Mount St. Charles. Each of the two seasons since he has taken over the Mounties have qualified for post-season play

Anthony earned his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Providence College. With a background in education, he uses a variety of teaching methods to maintain a positive learning environment that focuses on player’s technical and tactical development. He has been employed at Cumberland High School as a science teacher since 2009.

Boys & Girls Cross Country

Coach Amy Noecker

Coach Noecker has been the boys & girls cross country coach at Mount St. Charles for the past three years. Her teams have had numerous runners earn All State, All-Class and All-Division honors including many that have broken school records.

During her high school years Amy was a member of the St. Raphael Academy Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams. She was an All Division, All Class and All State runner. While at St Raphael Amy was part of back to back State Championship cross country teams.  She continued her cross country career at St. Bonaventure University, where she was a member of the varsity cross country team. Amy also coaches the Boys and Girls Outdoor Track & Field teams here at Mount. Amy is a teacher at Stacy Middle School in Milford, Massachusetts.

Field Hockey

Coach Meg Martin brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and experience upon being chosen as field hockey head coach for Mount St. Charles. Prior to coming to Mount St. Charles she had been a part of the Bay View Academy coach staff since 2021. She was first hired as an assistant coach before being named head coach in 2022. Her first year as head coach she was named the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s Division II Coach of the Year. Coach Meg prioritizes skill development, game strategy and team building in her programs as key pieces for success.

She has over 15 years of playing experience, starting with the Boys and Girls Club along with playing for the club team Lead the Way. At Cumberland High School while on the team she earned All Division honors. She was also an All Division athlete in Indoor and Outdoor track, competing in middle distance events and the pole vault. 

She continued her field hockey playing career at Juniata College from 2014-2018. In her four years as an Eagle her team won two Landmark Championships, qualifying both years for the NCAA Tournament. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, she majored in Biology with a minor in Communications. Meg is currently a freelance writer and still plays field hockey on a weekly basis.

Girls Volleyball

Coach Gould has an extensive background in playing and coaching volleyball. He is a Mount graduate (2018) in which he was a four-year varsity boys’ volleyball starter, earning All-Division honors each year. He was also named All-State three times and senior year was selected as the Rhode Island Volleyball Coaches Association boys volleyball Player of the Year and Providence Journal Player of the Year. In his senior year his team captured the school’s first Division 1 State title.

Coach Gould has coached the Mount Saint Charles  girls’ volleyball program for the past two years, leading them to playoff appearances both seasons. He has had a number of players earn All-State and All-Division honors. He has also coached with the Blast Volleyball Academy girls club program for the past four years. He currently competes in semi-pro (amateur) beach volleyball tournaments year-round. Off the court he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) from the University of Rhode Island. He is a certified personal trainer with the NSCA, he is currently employed at Redwood Personal Training.

Coach Ladi brings a wealth of basketball playing and coaching experience to Mount, having been an assistant coach at Coyle and Cassidy in Taunton MA, from 2011-2018 followed by his successful turn as head coach at Rocky Hill Country Day School (2019-2023) in East Greenwich, RI. While at the helm his teams won two SENE regular season Championships, one SENE Conference Tournament Championship, three NEPSAC Class D Semifinal appearances, and two NEPSAC Class D Championship appearances. Ladi also coached two SENE Players of the Year, one NEPSAC Class D Player of the year, and one RI Gatorade State Player of the Year.

Girls Basketball

Coach Ed Cunanan

Coach Cunanan has been the Mounties girls basketball head coach since 2021. During his tenure he has helped lead them to two regular season Division 2-A titles in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. In each of his three years his team have made appearances in the semifinals of the Division tournament. Last year, 2022-2023 they qualified for the State Tournament for the first time in school history along with appearance this year, 2023-2024. In 2022-2023 was selected as the Division II Coach of the Year by the Rhode Island Girls Basketball Coaches Association.  

Coach Cunanan has been coaching girls basketball for more than ten years. Before taking over as the Mount St. Charles head coach, he was the junior varsity coach for two seasons at Mount. Prior to Mount, he coached girls’ basketball at Good Shepherd Catholic School in Woonsocket, winning one Catholic Athletic League championship. He also coaches with the Rhode Island Magic AAU program, in which he has been a part of since 2021. In 2022 his team won the Zero Gravity Nationals championship. In his playing days, he was a starter for the varsity basketball team at Woonsocket High School. He was also captain and an All-Class A selection for the Novan football team. 

He has been employed with the Woonsocket Police Department for the past 33 years, he currently holds the rank of Captain in the Command Staff.  He holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University, where he is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Justice Studies and at University College for the past 11 years. Coach Cunanan also teaches Criminal Justice at Mount Saint Charles Academy.

Coach Coleman has 20+ years experience coaching, including coaching Mount’s varsity boys basketball program from 2014-2024. During his tenure, the Mounties made it to the playoffs seven times, capturing their first league title since 1995 in the 2018-2019 season, finishing first in Division III-East with a 13-5 record. Coach Coleman has been recognized as the Rhode Island Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year three times, and the Mounties were honored with the division’s Team Sportsmanship Award two times. He also served on the Rhode Island Boys Basketball Coaches Association Executive Board for 12 years, including 6 years as president. In 2023 he was recognized as the Board 84 Officials Distinguished Service award winner. Coach Coleman also coaches with the Rhode Island Magic program, he has been a part of their program since 2015. Three of his teams have qualified for the AAU World Championships.

Boys Ice Hockey

Coach Jamie Carroll

Coach Jamie Carroll comes to Mount St. Charles with a wealth of hockey playing and coaching experience.  Jamie is familiar with the NEPSAC league having been a student-athlete at the Tilton School after which he furthered his playing career at UMASS Dartmouth where he was a two time captain and two time League All Star.

After college Jamie spent several years playing professional hockey in the Central Hockey League for the Indianapolis Ice and in the Southern Professional Hockey League for the St. Pete’s Parrots and the Cape Fear Fire Antz. After his playing career was over, he transitioned into coaching.  Jamie was an assistant coach at Framingham State University for 4 years, and coached with the South Shore Kings and Lovell Hockey from 2014-2021.  Jamie has also been a hockey official at the prep-school, junior, and collegiate level.

Girls Ice Hockey

Coach Sophia Vingi

Coach Vingi has been the head coach of Mount St. Charles girls hockey program since 2023. In her first year she helped guide the team to post-season play, including an appearance in the State semifinals. She is also a skills coordinator for the Rhode Island Sting. 

Sophia is a graduate of the Winchendon School. She was a three-sport athlete having played hockey, volleyball and softball during her four years. She continued her playing career at the collegiate level, Castleton University. She was a part of the Division III women’s ice hockey team, including being selected as team captain her senior year. 

She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration in 2020.

Coach Kelly has been coaching the Mount boy and girls indoor track teams since 2019, being the head coach for the past three. His teams have had numerous runners earn All-State, All-Class and All-Division honors including one state champion in 2024. Many of his athletes have broken school records along the way. 

During his high school years Brendan was a member of Don Bosco Prep’s Winter and Spring Track & Field teams including the New Jersey State Championship back in 2011. He has also coached the middle school track & field team and has assisted with the varsity outdoor track & field teams here at Mount St. Charles. Brendan is currently a teacher and Academic Director of the Religious Studies department at Mount.

Wrestling

Coach Perrotta has a long history of both wrestling and coaching competitively. Prior to becoming Mount’s head coach, Perrotta was assistant wrestling coach at Woonsocket High School along with having coached in both Lincoln and in Wickford. 

In high school he was the captain of La Salle Academy’s wrestling team, finishing sixth in the state championships in the 170 lb division. Wrestling runs deep in his family, both of his grandfathers were All-State wrestlers.

Coach Perrotta earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and also a Masters degree in Art Education, both from the University of Rhode Island. He is currently employed as a Wellness teacher at Mount St. Charles.

Coach Doug Wall is entering his first year as head coach of the Mount Saint Charles baseball team.  He has been a pitching instructor for the past 20 years in Rhode Island and Massachusetts as well as the pitching coach at Burrillville High School where three of his pitchers won the Cy Young for Rhode Island.  Doug played high school and legion baseball in Durham, CT and Middletown, CT respectively.  He also played four years of Division 1 baseball at Providence College where the team won three regular season Big East Championships and was ranked as high as #9 in the country.

Coach Marielle Jackvony has been the head coach of the Mount Saint Charles Varsity Girls Lacrosse team since 2022. She began playing lacrosse herself at the young age of 11 and played throughout her high school career. She has over eleven years of coaching experience in soccer and lacrosse, having coached girls of all ages and abilities. She helped lead the Mounties 2023 Division IV regular season title and State Championship. 

She studied at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia where she was a Sports and Exercise major. After graduating from Randolph College, she attended Virginia Commonwealth University, earning her Masters in Sports Leadership. She later earned her Masters in School Counseling at Providence College. She currently serves as a school counselor at Mount Saint Charles.

Girls Tennis

Coach Marissa Pitrone

Coach Pitrone has been the boys and girls head coach at Mount St. Charles since 2022, including a prior stint from 2007-2015. During her years as head coach, she has helped produce several All-State and All-Division players. In between her two different times coaching at Mount St. Charles, she was an assistant coach with the University of Rhode Island Women’s Tennis program from 2021-22. In her first year with the program, they were ranked inside the Oracle ITA Top 100 for the first time in school history, reaching as high as 95th. That same year the Rams reached the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship. She also coached the Bryant University club team and taught tennis at Rhode Island Tennis Academy at Centre Court in Riverside.

Marissa is a Mount St. Charles graduate, class of 1994. She played all four years on the varsity tennis team, earning 1st Team All-State and All-Division honors each year. Her senior year she was the Rhode Island State Singles champion. After high school she continued playing at the collegiate level, first at Salve Regina University and then at the University of Rhode Island. She is also a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, earning a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.

Pitrone is a certified USPTA Tennis professional and PPR Pickleball Professional.
