Live version of Disney’s ‘Frozen’ is coming to stage and ice at Mount Saint Charles
Mount Saint Charles Academy will produce Disney’s “Frozen Jr.,” a live musical adaptation of the blockbuster movie “Frozen,” on stage and the ice of Adelard Arena in 2020.
Mount is one of a handful of Rhode Island organizations that has secured the rights to stage “Frozen Jr.” The show will run April 24-25 2020 on a specially constructed stage in Adelard.
Skaters from Mount Saint Charles’ Sur la Glace figure skating program will enhance the story of a princess burdened with magical freezing powers, said Mount Saint Charles Creative Arts Director Emily Luther.
“We’re excited to do something new and different for the community,” she said. “Our plans are still in the formative stage, but we’re hoping to do something like an open skate and meet-and-greet for children with characters from the show. There are many possibilities, and we’re going to consider all of them to make this into a really special event for Mount and our surrounding communities.”
“Frozen Jr.” is among the new programs Mount’s fine arts department is launching in 2019-20. All Mount students and families are welcomed to attend a fine arts celebration of “Frozen Jr.” on July 24, immediately after the end of that day’s Summer Fine Arts camp.
“The ‘Frozen Jr.’ production is the first example of a new approach to the arts we’re taking at Mount,” said Principal of Academics Jessie Butash. “Emily’s role is to explore new ways to incorporate the many talents of our students in all areas of the arts, as she’s done by bringing the Sur la Glace program into ‘Frozen Jr.’ There will be more innovations like that in the 2019-20 school year, and our performing arts program will be out in the community more as we reshape it around the idea of integrating academics, public service and the arts.”
