Mount Saint Charles Academy is a college-preparatory school. The course of studies is designed to offer the students a solid readiness for college level work. The following high school credits (grades 9-12) are required for entry into college and, consequently, for a diploma from Mount Saint Charles:
Honors programs are advanced and intense courses for selected students in the lab sciences (environmental science, biology, chemistry, physics), Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, French I-IV, Spanish I-V, English (grades 7-11), Geography, U.S. History I. Advanced Placement programs are selected courses in English, Biology, U.S. History, European History, Chemistry, Psychology, Environmental Science, Art, and Music Theory that follow the criteria set forth by the College Entrance Examination Board and are geared toward the CEEB's May exams for advanced college placement. The Early Enrollment Program (EEP) is a school/college partnership between Mount and Rhode Island College. Its function is to offer MSC students an opportunity to earn credits toward college while at MSC. Credits are granted by Rhode Island College; RIC publishes a list of colleges around the country that accept EEP credits as transferable credits. Currently, the following courses are offered as part of the EEP Program: AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP English, and Spanish IV/V Honors. Students are encouraged to discuss programs and plans for the future with parents, teachers, teacher-counselors, and a college placement advisor. Above all, each student is urged to work to the best of his or her ability and to use all of his or her talents. The entire faculty is ready to assist in the development of each student's full potential for college readiness. Students must enroll in six classes plus physical education each semester. All courses require a sufficient number of enrollees to run. Additional courses may be taken if available and if the student can handle the additional course work. Electives without sufficient numbers may be cancelled. |
